READ / Hear God’s voice

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV)

Gratitude is not a feeling we wait for. It is a posture we choose.

Scripture does not tell us to give thanks for everything, but in everything. That distinction matters. Gratitude does not deny pain, difficulty, or disappointment. It acknowledges that even in the middle of hard seasons, God is still present, still working, and still worthy of praise.

THINK / Reflect on meaning

In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were surrounded by God’s goodness. Provision. Freedom. Blessing. There was only one thing God said no to. And yet, that one no became the enemy’s point of focus. Surrounded by “yeses”, they became consumed by the one “no”. We need to be careful because it’s the same tactic the enemy still uses today. So many of us are surrounded by so many blessings, but instead of thinking, God for all that we already have we find ourselves, discouraged by the things that we feel are missing.  Discouragement settles in. Frustration grows. And if left unchecked, it begins to shape our words, our attitudes, and even our decisions.

Gratitude realigns our hearts. It pulls our attention back to what God has already done and what He is still doing. It reminds us of how good God has been and all the places He’s blessed us!

This doesn’t mean we stop dreaming, believing, or praying for more in our lives. God invites us to live with vision.  But we need to learn before we get so fixated on what we want to see God, that we always stop and thank God for what he’s already done. Doing so will gard your heart.

  • What “no’s” and “not yets” have caused me to overlook the many “yeses” God has already given me?
  • What are the top 5 things I’m greatfull to God for today?

PRAY / Trust God & talk it out with Him.

As you pray today:

  • Thank God for specific things that He’s done in your life and is doing in your life, both big and small.
  • Take some time to thank Him for the season you are in, trusting that even if it’s hard, He is at work.

WORSHIP / Respond with worship.

As you spend time in worship today focuses on God’s goodness and faithfulness.

ACT / Live it out

Heres some ideas to help us act in gratitude today.

  • Choose one person today and express gratitude for them.
  • When you catch yourself focusing on what’s missing today, intentionally thank God for what is already present.

DIG A LITTLE DEEPER

If you want to go further today, spend time reading these passages on gratitude:

  • Psalm 103; Colossians 3:15–17; Philippians 4:6–7

As you read, notice how often gratitude is connected to peace, worship, and trust in God.
