READ — Hear God’s voice

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)

Jesus doesn’t describe the blessed as the strongest, the most disciplined, or the most put-together. He calls the hungry blessed. Not people who have arrived — but people who know they haven’t. Hunger is not passive. It’s not casual. It’s a deep awareness that something is needed.  It’s a deep drive to find what it is we’re craving.

The problem is rarely a lack of hunger — We all feel the ache, the restlessness, the longing, but we aim it in the wrong direction. So we chase what we believe will finally satisfy us. We reach for achievement, success, comfort, relationships, or control, hoping one of them will quiet the hunger inside. But non of it ever does. Until we recognize what our soul is truly craving, we’ll keep consuming things that promise satisfaction but always leave us wanting more.

Jesus says that the ones who will be filled other ones who point their hunger toward righteousness. –  A life lived in surrender to God, aligned with His heart, His truth, and His ways. This isn’t about religious performance. It’s about longing.

  • What would help to increase your hunger for God?

THINK — Reflect on meaning

Scripture often describes spiritual hunger as thirst. Psalm 42 gives us a vivid picture: “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God.” This isn’t casual language — it’s survival language. A deer does not search for water because it’s curious — it searches because without it, it will not survive. The deer is desprate and the psalmist is saying that his need for God is not optional — it’s essential.

If we don’t allow ourselves to hunger and thirst for God it’s because we haven’t yet acknowledged or we’ve simply forgotton how dependent we truly are. We still believe we can push through on our own strength, manage our own emotions, or satisfy our own longings. Hunger for God grows when we come to terms with the truth: we simply can not go on without Him.

Once we come to that realization, there’s no such thing as casually pursuing God. Awareness of our need moves us to want Him and his way more than anything else. And the promise is clear: those who hunger and thirst for Him will be filled.

PRAY — Trust God & talk it out with Him.

As you pray today, spend time praying today, confess to God how much you need him. Acknowledge all that you  lack without him. Specific places where you need him and are desperate for him. Make sure then thank God that he meets you in your desperation and fills you overflowing.

As you pray, ask:

  • Have I become too casual in my pursuit of God?
  • Have I been trying to satisfy my hunger with things other than God?
  • God, Will You help me hunger for You with my whole heart during these 14 days?

WORSHIP — Respond with worship.

Worship is responding to God with honesty and openness.

Take a few moments and reflect:

  • Where have you been trying to satisfy your soul apart from God?
  • When have you experienced God’s presence truly filling you in the past?
  • What would it look like to bring your hunger to Him today instead of numbing it?

As an act of worship, tell God — in your own words — that you want Him more than anything else. Let your longing become worship .

ACT — Live it out

Today, practice becoming aware of your hunger instead of avoiding it.

As you move through the day, consider:

  • Where do I feel restless, empty, or dissatisfied in my life?
  • What do I instinctively reach for in those areas?
  • How can I pause and invite God into that space instead?
